A comparative study of the effect of gender on language (DSL) in the poetry of Jale Esfahani and Soad Al Sabah (based on the theory of Robin Likoff)

Abstract :
One of the theories presented by Robin Likoff is the influence of language on gender; This means that the female or male writing style, due to their gender, will also affect their literary language. Likaf organized his theory in four axes of phonetic, lexical, syntactic and communicative or semantic, and examines the characteristics of women's style in these four areas. This essay will investigate the poetic style and female language of Jhaleh Esfahani, a contemporary Iranian poet, and Suad Al-Sabah, a contemporary Kuwaiti poet, based on the aforementioned theory, in line with the American school of comparative literature, in this essay, using the analytical-descriptive method, to determine the extent of the influence of this theory on the language To analyze the poetry of two poets. The findings of the research show that the two poets have made extensive use of multiple female characteristics in the four mentioned levels. Among them, the use of repetition at the linguistic level, the use of emotional words at the lexical level, the use of short and interrogative sentences in the syntactic field, and the defense of the rights of the same sex and the expression of women's concerns at the communicative and semantic level, more Among other elements, it has appeared as female characteristics and signs of the influence of gender on language in the poetry of two singers.
