Abstract :
The present study aims to explain the theological thoughts of the Jewish jurist, theologian and mystic, Bahiya Ibn Paquda of Andalusia, based on his only book, Al-Hidayah al-Farid al-Qulub (Duties of the Hearts), which was the most important and widely read book of Jewish religious and mystical literature in the Middle Ages. And it is looking for an answer to this central question: "Bahya's theological opinions and thoughts centered on the mentioned book were raised in what space and context and on what elements and components were they based?". Bahiya in the book of al-Hidayeh, where influences from the thoughts of Akhwan al-Safa, Imam Muhammad Ghazali and Plotin can be found in it; He emphasizes the importance of faith and inner piety as the basic motives of religious, mystical and moral behavior, which he describes as "heart duties". And he divides the duties or duties of every believer into two groups: physical duties (external science) and heart duties (inward knowledge). But despite Bahiya's mystical and ascetic thought, the thought of the chosenness of the Jewish nation prevailed in his view and the highest level of perfection is reserved for a small number of people who, in the position of leaders, guide others to a life with moderation.
