Investigating the Relationship between Social Isolation and Personality Traits Addiction to Smartphones

Abstract :
The purpose of this research was to investigate the relationship between social isolation and personality characteristics with smartphone addiction in female students of the second course of high school in Azarshahr. For this purpose, 276 students were selected by multi-stage cluster sampling method and answered questionnaires of smartphone addiction (SAS), Chalabi and Kafi social isolation, and personality characteristics (BFQ-C). The descriptive research method was correlation type. The results obtained from Pearson correlation and regression statistical methods showed that there is a positive and significant relationship between social isolation and smartphone addiction (P < 0.01). It was also found that there is a positive and significant relationship between the personality dimensions of neuroticism and openness with smartphone addiction (P < 0.01) and there is a negative and significant relationship between the dimension of conscientiousness and smartphone addiction (P < 0.01). Finally, it was found that social isolation and the dimensions of neuroticism and conscientiousness are able to predict smartphone addiction among female students of the second course of high school in Azarshahr city (P < 0.01).
