The impact of sanctions and international agreements on the attraction of foreign direct investment with an emphasis on technology transfer in Iran

Abstract :

Sanctions are one of the deterrent and effective levers in attracting foreign direct investment (FDI). International agreements and joint investment, while being effective in attracting foreign investment, are limiting and deterring sanctions. This study was conducted with the aim of investigating the role of sanctions and international agreements in attracting FDI, emphasizing technology transfer in Iran. This comprehensive research has investigated the impact of sanctions along with the impact of other related factors by using the opinions of experts and business experts. The statistical population included 1236 managers and experts in the field of management and macro-planning, who were selected using the Karjesi-Morgan table, with a sample size of 213 people using simple random sampling. The data was obtained using a questionnaire and the exploratory factor analysis technique was used to analyze the data using the principal component analysis method. The results showed that the sanction factor has reduced financial exchanges and technological transfer, and the factors of acceptance of laws and membership in international organizations, development of international agreements and joint investment are closely related to sanctions as effective factors. They play an important role in attracting FDI and limiting and preventing sanctions
