Investigation of the vital significance of identifying the pathogen Morganella morganii using its biochemical, genotypic, and antibiotic resistance features.

Abstract :

The newly emerging Morganella morganii is frequently spread in both the environment and organisms including intestinal tract of mammals as a portion of normal flora. However, it is mostly considered as an opportunistic pathogen causing mainly nosocomial infections. Regarding various virulence factors accompanied with different drug resistance genes, M. morganii could arise as critical pathogen challenging clinical infection control and prevention causing peritonitis, pneumonia, empyema, arthropathy, pericarditis, endophthalmitis, meningitis, wound infection and bacteremia. Accumulated data has shown that M. morganii often leads to high percentage of mortality in susceptible and high-risk patients who suffer immune deficiency. Current study aims to draw crucial attention to the agent and importance of introducing new efficient detection approaches based on phenotypic and genotypic pathogenicity features of the bacterium contributing to developing rapid and effective sensing approaches for identification of M. morganii. Therefore, there is a critical need to develop efficient detection approaches based on its phenotypic and genotypic pathogenicity features to enable rapid and effective identification of M. morganii
