Assessing the Effects of Urban Transportation Different Modes on Urban Spaces Environmental Quality

Abstract :
Environmental quality is a multi dimensional concept that has common points with concepts such as quality of life, quality of place, perception and satisfaction of citizens and livability. So, one of the urban environmental quality indicators is easy, quick and safe access for citizens and enjoying a variety of facilities and activities in the cities. In this regard, accessibility, movement continuity and presence of specific social groups, such as children and elderlies in different parts of the urban spaces, with the lowest energy wastage (in the field of the Fuel consumption and human force), the most acceptable cost; low traffic and minimal adverse environmental effects; such as air and noise pollution; and the most positive effects on culture, society and economic and also optimal utilization of physical and biological environment resulting from the desirable communication with urban transportation systems are among the main indicators of upgrading of the environmental quality of urban spaces. According to this, the present paper- with the goal of assessing the effects of urban transportation different modes on urban spaces environmental quality- is seeking to answer the question of: Which of the urban transportation modes have the most effects on upgrading of urban spaces environmental quality? The methodology of the paper relies on the secondary data and a questionnaire-based survey through Delphi Method. Finally, for assessing the effects of urban transportation different modes on urban spaces environmental, AHP Method is used. The results show that pedestrian mode in the first place and public transportation in the second place have the most ability to upgrading the environmental quality of urban spaces and creating attractive, livable and sustainable urban spaces
