Naphthoquinones are natural aromatic compounds that can be discovered in various plant families. In recent times a diversity of biological activities of these compounds has been reported. In most cases, these pharmacological activities are related to redox and acid-base properties, which can be modulated synthetically by modifying the substituents attached to the 1, 4- naphthoquinone ring, in order to enhance their therapeutic actions. In the current study we used dipole moment and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) to depict these molecules properties. The density functional theory (DFT) calculations at the level of B3LYP/6-31G* have been applied to analyze the substituent effect on the electronic structural properties including thermochemical parameters of Naphtoquinone Derivatives in gas phase using Gaussian 98. Dipole moment (Debye), energy of structure formation (HF/Kcal/mol) and point group, NMR parameters such as isotropic shielding (σiso) and anisotropic shielding (σaniso), σ11, σ22, σ33 obtained. Also thermodynamic properties and natural bond orbitals (NBO) were calculated. It dovetails our recent work of electron transfer pathways on Naphtoquinone Derivatives in different replacement is a fundamental step in constructing a knowledge base which will ultimately be of use in many cases. تفاصيل المقالة

Some new coordination compounds of tin(IV) having general formula [SnBu2 (L)2 ] (where L = carbohydrazone ligand) have been synthesized by the reaction of dibutyltin oxide with carbohydrazone ligands with the ratio of 1:2 (metal- ligand) using dry benzene as a reaction medium. The newly synthesized complexes were characterized by elemental analysis, molecular weight determinations, conductivity measurement and spectral analysis viz., IR, UV-Vis and NMR (1 H, 13C and 119Sn). A distorted octahedral geometry of these complexes has been assigned on the basis of spectral studies. The biological activities of carbohydrazones and their Sn(IV) complexes have been screened in vitro against some bacterial and fungal strain to assess their growth inhibitory potency. Most of the metal complexes exhibit more antibacterial and antifungal activities than the free carbohydrazone ligands against these organisms. تفاصيل المقالة

The structures of the compounds were elucidated with the help of NMR and mass spectral studies. The compounds 8, 9 and 14 are reported for the first time from the genus Diospyros. The biological screening of all the isolates and the crude methanolic extracts have been carried out including antiproliferative activity, antioxidant potential and inhibitory activity against the enzymes lipoxygenase and urease, respectively. Compound 1 exhibited significant antiproliferative activity against two cancer cell lines CAL-27 (IC50=2.98 μM) and NCI-H460 (IC50=5.57 μM). Methanolic extracts of the leaves and twigs of D. zenkeri presented low antiproliferative activity against these two cancer cell lines. Compounds 1, 6, 8, 9, 12 and the crude extracts exhibited moderate antioxidant activity with IC50 values of 76.5 μM, 65.8 μM, 55.3 μM and 51.2 μM respectively compared to BHA (IC50=44.2 μM). Compounds 6, 8 and 9 showed moderate lipoxygenase inhibition activity with IC50 values of 58.5 μM, 52.8 μM and 58.8 μM, respectively compared to baicalein (IC50=22.6 μM). تفاصيل المقالة

The plant species Lonchocarpus eriocalyx Harms (Fabaceae) is a deciduous slender tree or shrub which grows up to 15 m tall. It is an important medicinal plant in Kenya used to treat a wide range of ailments including eye infection, wound and ulcer. However, littleis known about its chemical constituents. The present study aims to isolate secondary metabolites from the plant leaves along with their various biological activities. Eight compounds, namely friedelin (1), lupenone (2), lupeol (3), stigmasterol (4), chrysin (5), stigmasterol 3-O-β-glucoside (6), apigenin (7) and 3,5,7,2’,4’-pentahydroxyflavonol (8) were isolated from the CH₂Cl₂ and MeOH extracts of Lonchocarpus eriocalyx Harms leaves. Their structures were determined by using physical and spectroscopic methods as well as comparison with literature data. The CH₂Cl₂ and MeOH extracts together with the isolated compounds were subjected to an array of biological tests including antiplasmodial, larvicidal and mosquitocidal, antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory assays. The compounds 1-4 and 6 together with their anti-inflammatory activities are reported from this plant for the first time. تفاصيل المقالة

This study investigated the volatile oil composition of Boerhavia erecta L. and Euphorbia hirta L. along with the corresponding antioxidant and antimicrobial properties. In thisregard, stems and roots of Boerhavia erecta together with aerial parts of Euphorbia hirta L. were used. Essential oils were obtained by hydrodistillation method using Clevenger-type apparatus, while identification and characterization were done by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) technique. Antioxidant activities were evaluated by 2,2'-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH•) method and the antimicrobial properties were assessed by agar diffusion method. GC-MS analyses revealed seven and twenty-four components in stem and root oils of Boerhavia erecta L., respectively representing 81.84% and 76.93% of the total oil contents with phytol (61.31%) and 9-octadecenamide (33.95%) as the most abundant components, respectively. Eleven compounds were identified in E. hirta L. oil representing 92.79% of the oil. The major compound of this essential oil was (Z)-9-octadecenamide (60.71%). The other minor components were methyl hexadecanoate (7.02%) and phytol (4.80%). B. erecta and E. hirta oils showed significant antioxidant activities compared to α-tocopherol. B. erecta L. stem oil inhibited the growth of Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus bacterial strains, while root oil showed moderate inhibition against Salmonella typhi and Bacillus subtilis at inhibition zones of 14-20 mm over a concentration of 12.5-50%. The three oil samples displayed significant antifungal activities against Candida albicans. Chemical constituents of B. erecta L. and E. hirta L. oils may be responsible for these biologicalactivities. These evaluations are reported for the first time. تفاصيل المقالة

The 1,3,5-triazine is the common triazine moiety. Triazines are weak bases and have much weaker resonance energy than benzene, so nucleophilic substitution is preferred to electrophilic substitution. Heterocyclic bearing triazines moieties, represent an interesting class of compounds possessing a wide spectrum of biological activities such as antiviral, fungicidal, insecticidal, bactericidal, herbicidal and antimalarial, anti-HIV, anticancer, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, antihypertensive, cardiotonic, neuroleptic, nootropic, anti-histamine, tuberculostatic, anti-protozoal, estrogen receptor modulators, cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitors, and antiparasitic activities agents. They also find applications as dyes, lubricants and analytical reagents. Some dyes, lubricants, and reagents derived from triazine are already available on market. By using the same approach series of compounds can be synthesized, characterize and evaluate for desire pharmacological activity with high potency and low toxicity. The triazine derivatives possess diverse biological potential, easy synthetic routes for the synthesis, and attracted researchers for the development of new chemotherapeutic agents and it also revealed the importance of the nucleus. تفاصيل المقالة
