One of the most important goals in medicinal chemistry is the development of new heterocyclic compounds with pharmaceutical activity. Thus, a novel series of the derivatives of benzimidazole were synthesized and the structures of all the synthesized compounds have been confirmed by IR, 1 H- and 13C-NMR, Mass Spectroscopy and elemental analysis. The title compounds have been evaluated for antifungal activities against Candida albicans, Candida glabrata, and Candida krusei. Some of these compounds have been found to exhibit moderate to good antifungal activity when compared with commercially available fungicides. تفاصيل المقالة

Phytochemical investigation of the roots of Ficus exasperata Vahl. (Moraceae) led to the isolation of a new cinnamic acid derivative, named ficusanol (1) along with eleven known compounds: 3-(6-methoxybenzo[b]furan-5-yl)propenoic acid (2), bergapten (3), oxypeucedanin hydrate (4), marmesin (5), decursinol (6), aridanin (7), betulinic acid (8), maslinic acid (9), a mixture of stigmasterol (10) and β-sitosterol (11), and sitosteryl-3-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (12). The structures of the new compound as well as those of the known ones were established by the means of usual spectroscopic methods: NMR (1H, 13C, DEPT, COSY, HSQC and HMBC) data and HR-ESIMS data. Crude extract and compounds 1, 2, 5, 6 and 7 were evaluated for their radical scavenging potency using DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) assay. Accordingly, the compound 6 showed significant antioxidant activity with IC50 = 25.10 ± 0.91 µg/mL, whereas the other compounds showed only moderate activity at high concentrations. Compounds 2, 6 and 7 were also evaluated for their cytotoxic activity among which the compound 7 exhibited a strong cytotoxic activity with a viability percentage of 3.5% on mouse lymphoma cell line L5178Y. تفاصيل المقالة

Background & Aim: In our daily lives, we need to use some supplements to support our bodily functions besides our daily diet. It is essential to get some additional minerals and vitamins required to reinforce our normal diet in today’s conditions. There are different food supplements that vary according to the body’s need. It is important to know if these supplements have the right ingredients or not. In the present study, our aim is to investigate the ingredients and antioxidant potential of a kind of herbal drug used for protection against deterioration of joint cartilage.Experimental: In order to examine the magnetic and structural properties of the herbal drug, several spectroscopic methods (Electron Paramagnetic Resonance, Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrophotometer, X-Ray Diffraction, Scanning Electron Microscopy, Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy) were applied at room temperature. The powdered form of the herbal medicine pill was used for analysis. Results: We observed a broad signalwith a g value of ≈2.0010 and with a line width of 185 G due to the higher Mn concentration by electron paramagnetic resonance. However, in the spectrum, we determined a weak shoulder with g value of 2.0040 which can be attributed to a carbon centered radical. Two x-ray diffraction peaks centered at ≈26.5° and 38° were assigned to turmeric which is an important component for assisting in reducing of inflammation and pain. The elemental composition results were in good agreement with the other applied techniques.Recommended applications/industries: It will be important to carry out alternatively supportive spectroscopic studies in health-related applications. تفاصيل المقالة
