A Study of Family Effect on Political Socialization (A Case Study of Tehran University Students)

Abstract :
Political socialization is the process by which the transition of political cultures takes place from one generation to another.In the other words political socialization is continuous in whole of life, in which political personality of people is formed. Many factors affect people political socialization that some of them are; Family, Mass Media, School and Peer Groups. This research represents family effect and familyrelationship type on political socialization of Tehran university students.However, other effects have been controlled. A sample size of 278 has beenselected from 16373 population. The research method is survey and data collection technique isquestionnaire. The results are as follow: 1. There is an inverse relationship between family education andstudent’s political participation rate. 2. There is a direct relationship between family education and student’spolitical trust rate. 3. There is a direct relationship between family political affair andstudent’s political interest rate. 4. There is a direct relationship between family political affair rate andstudent’s political efficiency rate. 5. There is a direct relationship between family religiosity and student’spolitical trust rate. 6. There is an inverse relationship between family's S.E.S and student’spolitical interest rate. 7. There is a direct relationship between family's S.E.S and student’s political trust rate.According to research results, three effective variables in student’s political socialization are respectively important: Peer group, Mass media &Family.
