Comparison of the analytical method of seismic improvement instructions in modeling steel shear walls with complete three-dimensional models

Abstract :
To deal with lateral loads such as wind and earthquake, various systems have been proposed so far. One of the newest is the steel shear wall, which has been used in several tall and important buildings in seismic regions of the world such as the United States and Japan. Steel shear walls have good comparative advantages over other lateral load-resistant systems such as braces and concrete shear walls. From the tests and studies performed, it appears that the steel shear wall system has considerable rigidity and resistance compared to other systems. The steel shear walls with the height of the floors corresponding to the three-dimensional building models were adopted from the constructed models and for analysis, the shear walls themselves were analyzed in Abacus software alone. In this paper, suitable steel sections for beams and columns of frames have been selected and nonlinear analysis has been performed on them. The analytical method is seismic improvement instruction in modeling steel shear walls and according to this instruction, the criterion of study is the relative displacement of structures as a criterion and indicator of damage. Finally, the analytical method of seismic improvement instructions in modeling steel shear walls was compared with complete three-dimensional models. The results showed that to evaluate this structural system, modeling and examining the shear wall alone would be misleading. Because the overall performance of the building will be much closer to reality and more efficient.
