Background and aims: beta-alanine is a non-essential amino acid which, in combination with histidine, leads to the formation of carnosine. The purpose of this research is to review the ergogenic effects of beta-alanine in football. Methodology: In the current review, by searching the keywords football, beta-alanine, sports performance and their Latin equivalents, they were searched from databases. The articles collected in this review study selected articles that met the inclusion criteria were selected and included in the study. Inclusion criteria included the specific relevance of protein in sports and studies on soccer players. The articles were screened based on PRISMA. Finding: Overall, the results of the present review showed the ergogenic effects of beta-alanine consumption in soccer, and most of the interventional researches that were conducted on soccer players showed the positive effects of beta-alanine on aerobic and anaerobic performance in soccer players. According to scientific sources, to improve the physical performance of football players, it is recommended to use 3.2 to 6.4 grams of sustained release tablets daily from 2 to 6 grams for at least 4 weeks of continuous use up to 24 weeks. Conclusion: According to the results of the present review, it can be said that beta-alanine supplementation has positive effects in improving the sports performance of soccer players, and it is recommended to use appropriate doses based on timing to improve muscle carnosine reserves.
