This study determined the situation of rural tourism and agro-tourism in Tehran Province as well as the expected economic impacts of agro-tourism development on it. In this research, we used documental research method and field research based on questionnaires and face-to-face interview. It was found out that despite different tourist attractions in rural areas of Tehran province, tourist arrival to the rural areas was only due to natural attractions. Almost all counties have agricultural tourist attractions, but no comprehensive and coherent programs have been implemented for the development of agro-tourism in the region. It was revealed that one job can be created in exchange for the arrival of nearly 133 Agro-tourists, that tourists in their rural trips are more willing to buy agricultural products and homemade processed foods as compared to handicrafts and other goods, that in rural trips, Agro-tourists will spend more money for their purchases than other rural tourists, and that Agro-tourists earn much more benefit on their purchasing as compared to rural tourists. Based on the results, the most important expected economic impacts of Agro-tourism development in Tehran province include the increase in Agro-tourist arrivals to the rural regions, the increase in job creation, the improvement of rural economy and much more Agro-tourism revenue in rural areas as compared to other fields of rural tourism. To achieve this objective, the researchers used documentary research methods. The population of this study involve in tourism and rural tourism authorities. The sample of the population consist of 119. The statistical methods used in the study include the non-parametric statistics (Kolmogrove Smirnove). No special information and detailed statistics were presented that have helped clarified the status of rural tourism and rural tourists in Iran. The first five priorities in the field of inhibiting factors affecting positive impacts of tourism on Iran economics were lack of major plans and policies for tourism and rural tourism development, weak cooperation between the government, private sector and local people in planning, managing the tourism and rural tourism projects, frequent change in the authorities of cultural heritage, handicraft and tourism organization, lack of correct criteria for choosing managers and executive directors, and the effects of the sanctions on tourism programs. Furthermore, political factors were found to be important in regard to their effect on the situation of tourism economics in Iran. Manuscript profile

This research aimed at investigating the impacts of tourism on residents' subjective quality of life in tourist destination villages of Marvdasht County, Iran. The statistical population included 170 heads of households living in the tourist destination villages of Marvdasht County, selected by the simple randomization method and based on Cochran’s formula. The data collection instrument was a researcher-made questionnaire whose validity and reliability was confirmed. Data were analyzed by exploratory factor analysis and Morris’s model. The results of factor analysis showed that the components including cost, local livelihood, and asset accounted for 61.27, 58.77, and 58.06 percent of the total variance in the economic dimension of subjective quality of life, respectively. Social dimension components (including local community and nutrition and health) also captured 66.17 and 60.48 percent and environmental dimension components (including environmental sustainability and physical dimensions) captured 61.28 and 67.87 percent of the total variance in residents' subjective quality of life, respectively. According to the findings, the level of subjective quality of life was medium (with the coefficient of 0.55) based on the Morris method. While the economic (with a coefficient of 0.53) and environmental (with a coefficient of 0.54) dimensions of subjective quality of life were at the medium level, the social dimensions of subjective quality of life (with a coefficient of 0.6) were at the favorable level. Therefore, the highest score of the subjective quality of life in the tourist destination villages was related to the social index. These findings can be used to identify previous policy strategies and design future planning policies. Manuscript profile

Economic appraisal of historical sites is the key to planning rural development for their management, preservation, and protection. The purpose of this study was to estimate the preservation use value accrued to visitors to Rudkhan Castle in the northwest of Gilan Province, Iran. The visitors' willingness to pay (WTP) was measured by using the contingent valuation method (CVM) and the one-and-one-half-bound (OOHB) model’s dichotomous choice (DC) questionnaire. Throughout the research, we stressed the fact that indifference, uncertain, and protest behavior can and do occur simultaneously in contingent valuation (CV) studies. The results showed that 75% of the people in the protection program of Ghaleh RudKhan Castle are willing to pay. The rest are not willing to contribute and are divided into three groups: unwilling to pay (4%), protests (20%), and uncertain (1%). Using the OOHB bid function, an expected WTP recreational value of US$ 0.566 per visit per household was estimated in 2019, and the annual welfare surplus of visitors was estimated at US$ 96250000. The average WTP in the ethical and consequentialist groups was estimated at US$ 0.643 and 0.67325, respectively. Also, the group unwilling to pay or true zeros was composed of seven respondents who explained their reasons as personal budget restrictions (86%) and the unnecessity of the program (14%). The protests group was also composed of 33 respondents and argued that it is only the task of the government (38%), only rural residents should pay (3%), only nonresidents should pay (56%), and not enough information is given on the proposal (3%). The aim of this study was to conduct a feasibility study on tourism entrepreneurship development in rural areas of Darreh-Shahr County, with the goal of providing appropriate strategies for its enhancement. The study employed a mixed-methods approach, combining qualitative and quantitative methods in a sequential exploratory design. Through purposeful and network sampling, 15 key informants from the fields of entrepreneurship and tourism were selected for in-depth interviews, continuing until data saturation was achieved. Qualitative data were subjected to SWOT analysis, while quantitative data underwent analysis using the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP). The findings indicated that a combination of conservative and aggressive strategies is essential for the development of tourism entrepreneurship in the rural areas of Darreh-Shahr County. The AHP analysis highlighted the importance of aggressive strategies, such as "organizing exhibitions and establishing local markets for rural and nomadic products." Additionally, it emphasized the need for conservative approaches, including "providing long-term, low-interest loans for the development of essential infrastructural facilities supporting rural entrepreneurial tourism" and "attracting local investors to establish recreational facilities like parks." In conclusion, this study underscores the necessity of employing a diverse range of strategies to foster the growth of tourism entrepreneurship in the rural areas of Darreh-Shahr County.
