Perception of Households Towards Eco-Label Products Consumption in Ibadan Metropolis, Oyo State, Nigeria

Abstract :
The study examined the perception of households towards eco-label food product consumption in the Ibadan metropolis, Oyo State, Nigeria. A multi-stage sampling technique was used to select 128 respondents from the study area. The data were analyzed through the use of both descriptive and inferential statistics. The distribution showed that the majority of the respondents were female (54.7%), Married (71.1%), and 58.6% had a household size of between 4-6 members with less than #50,000 ($65) as monthly income. The categorization level revealed that the perception toward eco-label products was low in the study area. Also, 62.5% proportionate indicated a high level of the barrier toward eco-label products in the study area. Favorable relationship between dwellers educational level as well as monthly income and perception towards the product were observed. Also, a positive relationship existed between the barrier and level of perception (X2=0.540, p<0.005).In conclusion, it was revealed that the respondents consumed eco-label products despite a low perception of the products. Therefore, to ensure a favorable perception towards Eco-label food products, there should be more awareness and enlightenment on the consumption of Eco-label food products
