Evaluation of awareness of dental students and general dentists of Isfahan city about orthodontic treatments

Abstract :
Introduction: By being aware of the need for orthodontic treatment in different population groups, one can have a correct vision for providing orthodontic treatments and also a correct planning regarding the provision of orthodontic services at the macro level of society. The purpose of this study was to determine the level of awareness of dental students in the last two years and general dentists in Isfahan city about orthodontic treatments.Materials and Methods: In this descriptive and analytical study, 75 dental students in the last two years of Isfahan Azad University Faculty of Dentistry and 75 general dentists in Isfahan City were selected by non-random sampling method. A questionnaire with 2 parts, including questions related to background information and 25 questions related to determining awareness, was provided to them. Data were analyzed by chi-square, Mann-Whitney, and Spearman correlation tests.Results: There was no significant difference in the mean scores between the group of dental students and the group of general dentists (P=0.301). There was no significant increase in women's knowledge compared to men (P=0.002). There was no significant difference in the level of knowledge with age (P=0.124) and work experience of dentists (P=0.848). There was no significant difference between the mean scores of incoming students in 2015 and in incoming students in 2016 (P=0.91).Conclusion: The level of knowledge of general dentists and dental students in the last two years was average, women had a higher level of knowledge, but age, work experience, and year of entering the university did not affect the level of knowledge of people.
